Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man and the injuring of another during an apparent armed robbery in a strip mall parking lot.
Detectives have learned that on Sunday at 3:42PM, while a father and his son where sitting in their vehicle at a strip mall parking lot, located in the 10900 block of Atlantic Avenue, Lynwood, they were approached by two men.
One of the men approached the driver's side of the vehicle, pointed a handgun at the father and demanded money from him. Fearing for his safety and the safety of his son who was sitting in the passenger seat next to him, the father tried to take the gun away from the suspect. At that time, a struggle ensued between the suspect and the father, in which the victim was pistol-whipped multiple times on his face.
Seeing what was taking place, the son exited the passenger side of the vehicle and attempted to come to the aide of his father, who was still struggling with the suspect. The son immediately tried to take the gun away from the suspect when he was shot multiple times in the upper torso. Both suspects then fled the location in an unknown direction.
The two suspects were described as Black males, approximately 18-20 years-old.
The victims were transported to a local hospital, where the son was later pronounced dead. The father suffered minor injuries, for which he was treated and later released.
Sheriff's Homicide detectives are seeking the public's assistance in identifying the suspects. Anyone with information regarding the shooting, is urged to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Homicide Bureau, at (323) 890-5500.
