A male motorist led deputies on a slightly more than 10-minute chase through the Compton area and Downey before being taken into custody where two suspects were eventually captured.
The chase began around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Compton area after deputies responded to a reported burglary of a business.
The initial on scene deputy saw two males Hispanics getting into a white pickup truck that was loaded with scrap metal. The deputy ordered the two men to stop but was ignored. The males entered the white pickup truck and drove toward the deputies’ vehicle crashing into it starting the pursuit.
The motorist was chased on the eastbound Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway, the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway and streets in Downey.
The suspect exited the Long Beach Freeway at Imperial Highway and drove into an industrial area near Garfield Avenue. He then abandoned the truck, running along the banks of the Los Angeles River, and then crossing it while the other suspect was being detained by deputy personnel.
After a few minutes or trying to avoid capture the remaining suspect slowed to a walk as deputies closed in, and then gave up, wet and exhausted. It was discovered that the suspect’s vehicle was loaded with various amounts of scrap metal from the business. The suspects were arrested and booked for felony evading of a police officer, grand theft and attempt murder on a police officer.
