Crime Bulletin

While the City of Pleasant Hill is safe place to live and work, we are not without our share of crime. Like other neighboring cities, the City of Pleasant Hill has seen a steady rise in the incidents of vehicle theft and vehicle burglaries over the last few months. The hardest hit areas are those where vehicles are highly concentrated, such as shopping mall parking lots and apartment complexes. The city’s downtown parking structure has been an area hit especially hard by thieves during the weekend evening hours.

Like most crime, you can never completely eliminate your risk of being a victim, but there are certain precautions that vehicle owners can take to minimize that risk. Here are a few tips:

• Always lock your car. Many thieves will not break into a car and will only enter it if the doors are unlocked or the windows are left down.
• Remove all valuables from sight. Often, burglars will only break into a car if there is something they see inside. This has been the case for many of the thefts reported to PHPD.
• Do not leave your car running unattended, even if it is just to run in and get a cup of coffee from a convenience store.
• Try to park in an open, well lit, area.
