Subject: Unlocked vehicles and locked vehicles with window smashes or other forced entries with property loss. In addition, we include residential burglaries with unlocked and forced entry.
As we are 8 weeks in 2012, we would like to inform Nixle Users throughout all areas of San Clemente to be aware of the numbers of unlocked vehicles and homes occurring in the time frame of January 1 – February 25 2012. These crimes and losses have occurred all over the city.
As you know, leaving cars, homes and garages unlocked attracts the criminal element to your neighborhood.
In the 8 week time frame there were 60 reports of unlocked vehicles with property loss throughout San Clemente.
11 vehicle window smashes occurred to locked vehicles with property loss.
12 vehicle window smashes occurred with no property loss.
7 residential burglaries were unlocked entries. 4 additional burglaries were forced entry.
Remember that not every victim reports a crime or loss.
Please continue to remind family members, neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc. to be crime prevention savvy.
Tips: Vehicles: Park in the garage or driveway, if possible. Lock doors and remove all property.
Residences: Lock all doors, windows, even on the 2nd story. Close your garage door and always lock your garage side door as well as the door that leads to the interior. Check them often and educate your family to do the same. Set alarms. Light your property. Notify trusted neighbors when you leave on vacation or utilize our Sheriff’s Dept. Report solicitors, suspicious people and activity on the non-emergency dispatch number (949) 770-6011. If a situation warrants, call 9-1-1.
