Coyote spotted near Tyrone and Bournemouth

A police officer on patrol spotted a lone coyote during the night on Tyrone near Bournemouth, last seen running into Salter Park. Although rare, it is not uncommon to see a coyote in the City and there has been an increase in sightings in the surrounding communities. As a precaution, the schools in the area were placed on alert. Coyotes are generally not considered a danger to humans.

A coyote is similar in appearance to a medium size shepherd, usually averaging around 20-30 pounds. They are usually grayish-brown, often with a patch of white chest hair. Their tales are bushy and held downward when running. They have a natural fear of humans and normally will avoid all human contact. If spotted, the best course of action is to make loud noises and animated movements to reinforce their fears. Do not approach or attempt to feed under any circumstances. If spotted, contact your local police department
