Sheriff Larry Sanders announces the opening of the County's first prescription drop box, at the Sheriff's Office.

DRUG DROP BOX OPENS

Garland County Sheriff Larry Sanders, left, and Garland County Cares program director Tonna Butzlaff show the new prescription drug box set up this week at the Garland County Detention Center. The drop box, which will be accessible 24 hours a day, was funded by GCC at a cost of about $1,400. Citizens can bring in their prescription pills, over-the-counter pills, vitamins and pet medications for disposal.

They will not accept needles, thermometers, bloody or infectious waste, hydrogen peroxide, aerosol cans, inhalers or liquids. Ziploc bags will be available to put the drugs in. Sanders said the box is not for family members of inmates to bring prescription drugs to the inmates and the box can only take a limited amount of drugs at a time.
