(Update) LASD Deputy Involved Shooting in Lancaster Wednesday, Suspect Deceased

Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy involved hit shooting that occurred on the 44000 block of Spearman Avenue, Lancaster, on Wednesday, February 1, 2012.

Detectives learned that as a result of the service of a narcotics search warrant at the location, Sheriff’s Operation Safe Streets Bureau personnel found evidence consistent with the sales of narcotics. No arrests made, though the deceased suspect was the subject of the narcotics warrant.

Whenever an Officer-Involved Shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies, and it results in a fatality, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Office of the Los Angeles District Attorney and the Los Angeles County Coroner, as well as investigations by Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. Attorneys with the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review also respond to the scene, and have full access to the facts known to the Sheriff's Department throughout every phase of these investigations. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.

Deputy Involved Shooting in Lancaster Wednesday, Suspect Deceased

Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a deputy involved shooting that occurred in Lancaster on Wednesday, February 1, 2012.

Detectives have learned that Sheriff’s Operation Safe Streets Bureau(gang investigators) deputies assisted Lancaster Sheriff’s Station personnel with the service of a narcotics search warrant at the 44000 block of Spearman Avenue, Lancaster.

Upon entry into the residence, a 68 year-old White male suspect suddenly exited a bedroom armed with a sword over 4 feet in length and raised it toward a deputy who was nearby. A deputy involved shooting occurred and the suspect was shot multiple times. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. No deputies were injured.

The suspect's sword was recovered at the scene.

There were three other people in the residence who were detained without incident.
