Serial burglar arrested on multiple felony charges
February 02, 2012
Beginning in October of 2011, numerous businesses in Harper Woods, Eastpointe and Detroit were targeted and broken into by the same suspects. The method used to break in was the same for all the businesses, the majority of which were bars. The suspects would cut the telephone line to deactivate the burglary alarm, then use pry-bars or other similar tools to force entry through the front or rear doors. Upon entry, the suspects would take money from the registers and force open video poker and cigarette machines.
Through an intensive investigation, Harper Woods detectives were able to identify the suspects responsible for these crimes. On January 26, 2012, an 18 year old male Detroit resident was arrested on multiple felony burglary charges.
On January 28, 2012 ANTONIO LUVEL SCOTT was arraigned in 32-A District Court and charged with Breaking and Entering a Building with Intent to Commit a Felony, a ten year felony. ANTONIO LUVEL SCOTT has a preliminary examination scheduled for February 08, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. SCOTT was given a $50,000.00 10% cash bond by the magistrate. We are in the process of obtaining warrants against SCOTT for two additional B&E Businesses in Harper Woods. We are also in the process of obtaining warrants on the other two identified suspects, who are not in custody at this time.
Scott has been implicated in 5 break-ins in Detroit, including the First Place Lounge on Harper where a shotgun and a handgun were stolen and sold on the street. Scott is also responsible for 2 break-ins of businesses in Eastpointe. Detectives from both communities are in the process of seeking additional warrants against Scott and his accomplices for those crimes.
