A lone teenager was walking to school Monday in the area of Denwall Drive and Tillman Avenue in the City of Carson, when he was approached by two male black suspects. One of the suspects asked the victim if he was a gang member, then pulled out a knife, pointed it at the victim, and asked if he had a cell phone, money, or marijuana.
The victim, fearing he would be stabbed, ran to a passing vehicle, begging for help. Both suspects then quickly walked east on Denwall Drive, entered a black Camaro, and raced from the scene.
Carson Sheriff's Station was notified regarding the attempted robbery and deputies were immediately dispatched to the location. With the cooperation of a witness, the vehicle and suspects were located at Central Avenue and Denwall Drive. The knife used in the crime was recovered. The suspects, identified as Lauren Michael Young (MB/18, resident of Carson) and Larry James Ballard (MB/18, resident of Carson) were positively identified by the victim, arrested at the scene, and booked at Carson Sheriff’s Station. They are being held without bail.
Carson Sheriff's Station Detective Gustavo Ramirez presented the case to the District Attorney’s Office who filed one felony count of Attempt Robbery on each suspect Wednesday.
