A permanent medicine drop box for unused and expired prescription drugs is now available for use. The medicine drop box is located in the lobby of the Rutherford County Sheriff Office (198 North Washington Street Rutherfordton, NC 28139). You can drop off your unused and expired prescription drugs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (during front office hours at the Sheriff’s Office) Monday through Fridays. The permanent medicine drop box will be monitored by a surveillance camera 24 hours a day. Residents from North or South Carolina can use the permanent medicine drop box, which is a safe way to dispose of unused and expired prescription drugs. Pills must be in bottles or blister packs. Bottles of liquid medications must be in sealed plastic food storage bags.
