Suicide
On Friday January 20, 2012 at 7:31 pm, Perth Amboy Police were contacted by the Sayreville Police Department who reported that a male had just jumped off the Victory Bridge, southbound side. Sayreville Police Sergeant James Novak stated that he was driving South on the Victory Bridge, and as he approached the crest of the bridge, he observed a White Honda Civic with its hazards on, parked on the shoulder. Sgt. Novak then observed a Hispanic male, later identified as Nelson Bautista-Molina, age 31 from Perth Amboy run from the driver side door of the vehicle, throw items off of the bridge, then proceed to climb over the railing and leap from the bridge. Perth Amboy Police then notified their Marine Unit who responded in Marine 2 to search for the victim. Within minutes, Perth Amboy Police were assisted by two helicopters from the New York City Police Department's Aviation Unit. With the assistance of NYPD and the use of infrared cameras and night vision equipment, Perth Amboy Police located Mr. Bautista-Molina's body near the N.J. Transit Train Bridge, after the NYPD Air-Sea-Rescue helicopter located an object believed to be the body of the victim which was face down in the water. Perth Amboy Police Marine 2 recovered Mr. Bautista-Molina's body and immediately took him to a dock on River Road in Perth Amboy where he was then transferred over to Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics from Raritan Bay Medical Center who then transported him to Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy Division, where he was pronounced dead.
