Vehicle Pursuit In North Lakeport Ends With One In Custody
Public Information Release
January 25, 2012
Sergeant Steve Brooks, Public Information Officer
An early morning pursuit ended with the arrest of a 39 year old Nice Ca. man, after he lost control of his vehicle which rolled end over end on Westlake Drive.
On January 24, 2012, at approximately 2:00 am, deputies were responding to a report of a home invasion robbery in Upper Lake. It was reported that the suspects involved in the robbery left in a vehicle, but the victim did not see the vehicle and was unable to provide a description. A Lake County Sheriff’s Sergeant, who was responding to the robbery, noticed a vehicle traveling southbound on Lakeshore Blvd. at a high rate of speed. The sergeant temporarily lost site of the vehicle and believed it had pulled off on a side street. He began searching the area with the assistance of the Lakeport Police Department. As the patrol sergeant was traveling northbound on Lakeshore Blvd. near Miramonte Way, he relocated the vehicle ahead of him.
The vehicle was identified as a silver Chevy Impala. As the sergeant caught up to the vehicle it crossed over the double yellow line and was traveling approximately 60 miles per hour (MPH) in a 45 MPH zone. The sergeant activated his emergency lights and attempted an enforcement stop near the Hill Road East Intersection. The vehicle slowed, but continued northbound on Lakeshore Blvd. The vehicle then accelerated to approximately 80 MPH, ran the stop sign at the Nice Lucerne Cutoff and crossed onto Westlake Drive. The driver turned off all of the vehicle’s lights and accelerated to approximately 90 MPH, driving in the opposite lane of traffic through a left turn. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and drove off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle left the road, went up an embankment and rolled end over end, landing upside down on the roadway.
The driver, later identified as Jose Carlos Iniguez, exited the passenger side door and started running southbound on Westlake Drive. Iniguez was taken into custody by the patrol sergeant moments later.
Iniguez was booked at the Lake County Hill Road Facility for evading a peace officer, violating the conditions of his parole, driving while under the influence and driving without a license. The California Highway Patrol is conducting the accident investigation.
