On January 22, 2012, at about 1:25 AM, officers were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle crash in the 2700 block of E Amarillo Blvd. Upon their arrival they discovered two people had died as a result of the accident. A white 2001 Cadillac 4-door had been driving westbound in the 2700 block of West Amarillo Blvd. The car turned southbound from West Amarillo Blvd onto North Florida. The Cadillac turned left in front of a 2005 Chevy Tahoe traveling eastbound on West Amarillo Blvd. The front of the Tahoe struck the passenger side of the Cadillac. The driver of the Cadillac, Kaylin Pearson, BF 19, and her passenger Kerniece Johns, BF19, both died at the scene. The Tahoe was driven by Caroline Nygaard, WF, 50 and was accompanied by her passenger, Jason Tarpley, WM, 25. Nygaard and Tarpley did not sustain any injuries in the crash. Justice of the Peace Nancy Bosquez has ordered an autopsy on both subjects that died. The crash is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Division of the Amarillo Police Dept.
