Details of yesterday's 3:50 PM accident on IH-27 released.

On January 20, 2012 at approximately 3:50 p.m. an officer of the Amarillo Police Dept drove up on a major traffic accident in the 5100 block of S I-27. The driver of a 2012 GMC Acadia had a medical problem that caused her to lose control of the vehicle. The Acadia drove eastbound from a private drive, across the service road and median, out onto I-27 for southbound traffic. The Acadia struck a 1968 Dodge Charger. The driver of the Charger, William Croft, WM, 71 of Amarillo was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver of the Acadia, Tara Woodard, WF, 46 of Amarillo was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Southbound traffic on IH-27 was rerouted for 3 hours as the Traffic Investigations Division of the Amarillo Police Dept investigated the accident.
