ADD'L UPDATE re: assaults at civic center. More than one suspect involved. See how to protect yourself better.

After having nearly all of the five victims come to the police station to pick out a possible suspect from a photo line-up, at least one victim as clearly eliminated Jermaine Moran as the man who assaulted her on January 11 in the evening.

The suspect in that case is described as a Black man, 5'10" tall, "thin but not too thin," clean shaven, wearing dirty blue jeans.

Persons working and walking through the civic center, especially near the new police headquarters and city hall, are cautioned to stay alert to persons approaching from behind or walking toward them on sidewalks or in crosswalks.

"The best way to protect ourselves in these case is to stay off the phones and avoid texting while we walk," Lt. Paul Vernon warned. "When you are distracted on the phone or with ear buds in your ears you are more vulnerable to someone assaulting you."

Meanwhile, detectives are filing the charges against Moran in several of the other assaults he is suspected in committing, and more officers will be in the civic center area to catch the man or men who are apparently following a similar MO to Moran's.
