Winter Weather Advisory for January 19, 2012

Port Angeles, WA -- The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect until 2 p.m. this afternoon. Temperatures for Clallam County will remain steady at 23deg to 32deg with roads remaining icy and discretionary travel discouraged. Accumulated snowfall is 1-3”. We appreciate the citizen’s response of caution in present conditions and know they will continue to exercise caution until the storm breaks.

Wind for our region may increase on Friday which could impact ferry traffic from the Peninsula. Check http://www.wsdot.com before embarking on travel out of the county.

The greater Seattle area is experiencing a significant impact on transportation and utilities due to ice accumulation of ¼”. Be sure to check WSDOT for road closures as it is changing frequently.

Gov. Chris Gregoire today issued a proclamation that ensures the delivery of valuable dairy products across Washington State. The proclamation would also – if needed – allow the activation of the Washington National Guard, and free up state agencies to take extraordinary steps to help local jurisdictions during the current winter storm. Read the actual proclamation at http://www.governor.wa.gov/.

DO NOT venture near downed trees, broken tree limbs or powerlines. IF YOU LOSE POWER - DO NOT USE FUEL POWERED GENERATORS OR HEATERS INDOORS, NEAR WINDOWS OR DOORS. Carbon monoxide poisoning is deadly and can strike suddenly and without warning. Physical symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning may include splitting headache, nausea, vomiting, lethargy and fatigue. If you or a family member believes that they could be experiencing carbon monoxide poisoning, get out of the property and call 911 immediately from a neighbor's house.
If conditions change dramatically, we will update our website before 5 p.m. this evening. Our next scheduled briefing will be Friday morning around 11 a.m.
