Two men arrested for graffiti offense in 2200 block of S. Polk yesterday.
On 1-18-2012, at about 5:46 PM, officers were sent to an apartment building at 2217 S. Polk on a reported vandalism in progress. The caller reported hearing someone on top of the building. Arriving officers saw two subjects on the roof of the building. Both left the roof and ran northbound in the alley east of the building. The officers caught both of them between homes in the 2100 block of S. Polk. Officers found recently painted red graffiti and a can of red spray paint on the roof. Both men were arrested and charged with evading arrest and with graffiti over $500. The damage consists of a red spray painted figure, a face, and a word painted on the flat roof. The owner estimated the damage at $700 but indicated that more damage to the roof might be discovered. The two booked into the Potter Co. Correction Center are William Gregory Meek WM 25 and Keith Henry Suttles WM 22, both of Amarillo.
The offense of graffiti can range from a class B misdemeanor to a first degree felony, depending on the amount of loss or damage. In this case, the damage is a class A misdemeanor, which can result in up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $4000.
