ALERT: Unlicensed Contractor Looking for Work
On Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 10am, Saddle Brook Police stopped a 1998 maroon Chevrolet Pick-up C-1500 with New York license plates that was reportedly driving around the north-end residential neighborhoods attempting to solicit driveway repairs. The occupants stated they were driving through the area “looking to make money”. Officers found basic tools and supplies including bags of driveway asphalt and concluded any work performed would have been substandard. Besides the issuance of motor vehicle summonses, a continuing investigation is pending regarding their solicitation of driveway work without a Township permit and without being properly registered as a home improvement contractor with the State of NJ Division of Consumer Affairs. Additional information pertaining to the State of New Jersey’s Contractors’ Registration Act can be found at www.njconsumeraffairs.gov
As with our previous announcement concerning the water company scam, residents are advised to be weary of unsolicited requests for any type of maintenance work (driveway, roof, windows, landscape, etc) If you are not sure of the identity or validity of an individual soliciting or making claims, contact the police department.
