Everyone near Pogonip Park should be aware of two moutain lions spotted.
The Santa Cruz Police Department is alerting residents to a dangerous situation.
On January 17, 2012 at approximately 6:00 pm two hikers spotted two full grown mountain lions near the upper meadows of Pogonip Park near the Spring St entrance. The two hikers were not injured and it appeared that the two mountain lions were interested in their dog off leash.
Take the necessary precautions with your outside animals and children. Try not to hike alone and take a cell phone with you. If you are confronted by a mountain lion, do not try to run away, face the animal, appear as big as possible, make loud noises, and report the incident to the Santa Cruz Police Dept or Fish and Game. Do not take your dog into the park off leash.
