Arrest made in Brigantine Burglaries

For Immediate Release:

Arrest made in car burglaries.

Sean Devinney (age 19) of Brigantine (formerly Galloway Twp.) was arrested and charged last night with Burglary to a Motor Vehicle and Theft. Police were called to a home on Ocean Avenue for someone breaking into a car. The caller described the male and officers began checking for him. A male(ID’d as Devinney, whom Police had arrested earlier in the evening for Domestic Violence) fitting the description given by the victim was located by Officer Sweet and was found to have items belonging to the victim in his possession. He was taken into custody and transported to the station for further investigation and processing. Officers continued to check the surrounding area for additional victims. Two additional vehicles were located on Brigantine Avenue and the area of the Cedar Sands condominiums and a home that was possibly entered. Evidence was taken from the scene(s) and will be processed as part of the ongoing investigation. Additional charges will follow if warranted. Devinney was processed, served his charges and transported to the Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.

We ask our residents to please check their vehicles, homes, sheds and garages as there were items on Devinney that have no identifiable owners right now. Please contact Det. Steve Ward at 266-7414 if you have had items stolen recently and please remember to lock your cars at night.

Additional charges in Commercial Burglaries.

As a result of the continuing investigation into the recent rash of county wide commercial burglaries, Phillip Maddelin and Desire Hill were served additional charges. Detective Spina reported that several more cases were cleared which resulted in Maddelin being charged with 2 counts of Burglary, 2 counts of Criminal Mischief, 2 counts of Theft and one count of Conspiracy.
