On January 10, 2012, 1430 hours, deputies from Norwalk Station responded to the 14300 block of Firestone Boulevard, La Mirada, regarding two employees who were embezzling money from the company’s (Star Scrap Metal) cash registers.

Star Scrap Metal Management advised deputies that Magali Herrera (Accounts Receivable Manager), and Monica Barragan (Cashier), had stolen $152,855.00 within a period of four months. The two employees took the money from the cash registers at the end of their shift and falsified documents to indicate a significant decreased amount of cash receipts. Management conducted an audit and found the discrepancy. Magali Herrera and Monica Barragan admitted to management about taking several thousands of dollars in small amounts from the cash registers since September of 2011. Both employees admitted to taking the money to pay their credit card bills and other personal expenses.

Detectives from Norwalk Station served a search warrant at the suspects residences. Detectives recovered approximately $56,000.00 from Magali Herrera’s residence in the city of Los Angeles. Suspects Magali Herrera and Monica Barragan were arrested for embezzlement and booked at Norwalk Sheriff’s Station.
