On Friday, January 6th., police arrested two suspects in connection with the burglary of a Young residence. The incident leading to the arrest of Eric M. Medina, 18, Bloomfield and Rashod D. Evans, 20, of East Orange, began at 12:22 p.m. after a Young Avenue resident contacted police reporting a suspicious incident. The witness reported seeing two subjects, subsequently identified as Medina and Evans, ringing the front doorbell of neighbor’s home. After seeing the subjects walking down the driveway, the woman contacted the police. While responding to investigate, a second caller notified police that she observed the same two subjects first attempting to open rear windows and then entering the home through the rear door. Upon arrival, officers encountered the two suspects attempting to exit the home from the rear. At that point, Evans pushed his way past police and began to run from the scene, while Medina retreated back into the home. Following an interior search of the home, police located Medina hiding in a closet. Evans was apprehended by police in a wooded area behind the homes on Winding Way. Both subjects were found to be in possession of property they had stolen from the home. Medina and Evans were charged with burglary, theft and conspiracy and Evans was additionally charged with aggravated assault on a police officer (pushing an officer as he attempted to escape) and resisting arrest. Both subjects are currently being held in the Cedar Grove Municipal Jail pending processing and the setting of bail. A number of surrounding police departments and the Essex County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the investigation.
