HUNTERDON GRAND JURY INDICTMENTS
Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III announced the indictments of the following defendants by a Hunterdon County Grand Jury on January 5, 2012.
John Chiles, age 52, of Flemington, was indicted on one count of Aggravated Sexual Assault (1st degree), one count of Sexual Assault on a child less than 13 years of age (2nd degree), and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (3rd degree). The abuse occurred several times between 1983 and 1988 in the city of Lambertville. An investigation conducted by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit in August led to the arrest of Chiles who remains lodged in the Hunterdon County Jail awaiting trial.
Joseph DeFilippis and Robert McLeod, both 19 of Raritan Township, were indicted on one count of Robbery (2nd degree) and one count of Theft (3rd degree) stemming from an incident that occurred in the Borough of Flemington on September 4, 2011. DeFilippis was also indicted on one count of Hindering Apprehension (3rd degree). Both DeFilippis and McLeod are lodged in the Hunterdon County Jail awaiting trial.
Gladys P. Cole, age 50 of Frenchtown, was indicted on one count of Shoplifting (4th Degree) for allegedly trying to remove sneakers valued at more than $200 and less than $500 from the Nike Outlet and the Factory Brand Shoe stores in Flemington on September 1, 2011.
Elizabeth Schreiber, age 43 of Flemington, was indicted on one count of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer (4th degree) and one count of Obstruction (4th degree) stemming from an incident that occurred in the Borough of Flemington on September 26, 2011.
Joseph Simmons, age 41 of Newburgh, NY, was indicted on one count of Impersonating a Police Officer (4th degree) stemming from an incident that occurred in West Amwell Township on May 26, 2011.
The indictment is merely a step in the criminal justice process. The defendant is presumed innocent until the matter is resolved in a court of law.
