BURGLARY/THEFT ARRESTS
Two individuals have been arrested and charged with a theft related offense, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
“Tyler Lee Bentley, 38, and Bethany Nicole Hiett, 27, both of Gadsden, have been arrested and each charged with one count of first degree theft and one count of third degree burglary, both are felonies,” states Investigator Jason Argo.
Bentley and Hiett broke into a residence on Black Creek Road on Friday, December 30. The females stole approximately $11,000 worth of jewelry.
Children playing nearby heard the alarm from the house and told their parents. The adults, who called 9-1-1, were able to give a vehicle description and license plate number.
Bentley was apprehended after Chief Investigator Mike Jones stopped the vehicle they were driving on Tabor Road. Hiett fled from the vehicle on foot and was later apprehended by Deputy Ben Greene.
The two began to throw the stolen items out of the vehicle when they noticed they were being pursued. Most of the jewelry was recovered and returned to the owner.
Both Bentley and Hiett are currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center.
