These are preliminary statistics for 2011. Homicide, Forcible Rape, Aggravated Assaults and Non-Aggravated Assaults are counted by the number of victims. In 2011, 44% of the homicides were domestic related. In the Larceny category, thefts predominantly occurred from unlocked vehicles, where personal items were left in plain view. Third row seats were also taken from Chevy Tahoes and GMC Yukons. There also was a 60% increase in bicycle thefts and an 18% increase in shoplifting related incidents. Cargo thefts increased by 36% and vehicle thefts increased by 7%. Hondas and Toyotas that were made from 1990 to 2000, were the vehicles most commonly stolen. Vehicle arson related incidents also increased by 38%. There were no residential arson related incidents reported in 2010; but there have been 3 separate incidents reported in 2011.
A brief reminder to the public: Lock all the doors of your vehicles and conceal all personal items when vehicles are left unattended or parked. Those who own Chevy Tahoes or GMC Yukons, secure the third row seats to a fixed object in the vehicle with a bicycle type cable lock or chain, or back the vehicle against a solid object, like a garage or wall, or to another parked vehicle. This will block the rear doors and prevent access to the thieves. Sheriff Detectives are actively investigating all cases; and with the help of patrol personnel, they have also implemented preventive measures such as surveillance operations, directed patrol checks of affected areas, and regularly conduct neighborhood watch meetings with concerned citizens and City Public Safety.
