December 21, 2011 - Bank robbery ends with mental health detention.
December 21, 2011 4:42PM – A male subject with a history of mental health was detained by Officer Barak and a group of law enforcement officers at his family’s residence in Trinity. Officers had responded to the First Community Bank after the bank reported a robbery. The male subject was reported to enter the bank and fill out a withdraw slip for an unusually large amount money. He reportedly handed the teller the withdraw slip and two lottery tickets. When the teller told him he did not have an account, the male subject allegedly told him repeatedly “You don’t want any trouble.” The teller took this as a threat and gave the subject $4,000.00 in cash. The man left the bank and walked to a local used car dealership where he used the money to buy a vehicle.
Officer Barak and Constable Wallace were able to quickly develop the identity of the male subject and detain him. Because of the subject’s documented mental health issues and his current behavior, he was taken to ETMC-Trinity ER where he was later transferred to a mental health facility. Although officers had to handle the subject’s mental health issues first, the events surrounding the incident are being investigated. Because the bank is F.D.I.C. insured the F.B.I. has been notified and a full report will be turned over to them.
Officer Barak was assisted by the sheriff’s office and constable’s office. Constable Wallace further assisted during the investigation by returning the recovered used vehicle and recovering the money from the dealership. After being processed, the money was returned to the bank.
