“Hopewell Police investigate weekend commercial robberies”

[Hopewell, VA] – The Hopewell Police Department continues to investigate and is seeking assistance from the public regarding several commercial armed robberies that occurred over the previous weekend.

On December 16, 2011, at 9:36pm, units responded to 3500 block of Oaklawn Blvd. for an armed robbery. The investigation revealed that a lone black male offender, last seen wearing a multi-colored hooded sweatshirt with a white in color bandana covering his face, entered the business, displayed his right-hand which was covered with a bag and demanded money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of currency from the clerk, the offender fled the business on foot.

On December 18, 2011, at 7:07pm, units responded to 400 block of N. 6TH Ave. for an armed robbery. The investigation revealed that the lone black male offender, further described as being 18-20 YOA, 5’8”-5’11”, 140-160 pounds, last seen wearing a white/orange striped shirt, blue jeans, sneakers and a multi-colored hooded jacket with a bandana across his face, entered the business, displayed his right-hand which was covered with a paper bag and demanded money. After receiving a lock box and bank bag containing an undisclosed amount of currency, the offender fled the business on foot. Shortly thereafter, units responded to the 300 block of S. Mesa Dr. for a second armed robbery. The description of the offender matched that of the previous robberies and exhibited similar characteristics.

Security cameras at two of the incident locations captured digital images of the offender (see attached).

The Hopewell Police Department is requesting that any person(s) who may have been traveling in and around the aforementioned areas at the time of these incidents and observed any suspicious person(s) or vehicle(s), contact the Hopewell Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit at (804) 541-2284. Additionally, any person(s) who have information on this or any other crime occurring in the City of Hopewell may contact the Hopewell/Prince George Crime Solvers at 541-2202.
