BURGLARY/THEFT ARRESTS
Two individuals have been arrested and charged with several theft related offenses, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
“James Glenn Hammett, 32, of Guntersville, and Amanda Renee Sims, 27, of Albertville, have been arrested and each charged with one count of third degree burglary, one count of second degree theft of property and illegal possession of a credit card; all are felonies,” states Investigator Shane Hartley.
The individuals were apprehended on December 6, after a traffic stop, for not having a license plate, on Sligo Road. Investigators were called to the scene after Deputy Plunkett noticed Hammett and Sims were acting suspicious and could not explain why they were in the area.
A verbal consent was given to investigators to search the vehicle. Inside they found items from a burglary on Egypt Road, which included a laptop, pocket knife, two cameras and two Bibles.
Hammett admitted to investigators that he and Sims had just broken into the house on Egypt Road. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Etowah County Detention Center.
Sims was advised of her rights and agreed to show investigators the burglarized residence. She was questioned further by investigators at the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, where she stated that the pair had also broken into a house on Gray Street in Gadsden, as well as three vehicles located on Highway 431.
Sims positively identified the residence on Gray Street but, told investigators she was high on meth and could not remember where the vehicles were located.
Hammett later admitted to breaking into the vehicles and residence in Gadsden.
The break-ins all occurred on December 6.
Additional charges are pending. Other items found in Sims’s vehicle, that included a GPS, credit card and social security card, were confirmed stolen from Albertville and Calhoun County.
Both Hammett and Sims are currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on $7,500 bond each.
