Washtenaw County Sheriff Office is releasing information about a recent crime near your address.

An elderly male was the victim of a Larceny from a Person on Friday December 2nd at approximately 10:15 am, on Clark Road in Ypsilanti Township. The victim conducted business at a convenience store in the area of Holmes Road and Ford Boulevard and then returned to his nearby residence.

The suspect approached the victim on two separate occasions prior to the Larceny. As the victim continued towards the front door of his residence, the black male ran up to him and stole the cash he had in his possession. The suspect fled the area in a Maroon over Gray small SUV. It is believed that the suspect first observed the victim at the store and then followed him to his residence.

The suspect was described as a black male, in his mid 20's, wearing dark clothing.

Here are some personal safety tips:

Carry only the money you’ll need on a particular day.

Do not display your cash or any other inviting targets.

If you think someone is following you, switch directions or cross the street. If the person continues to follow you, move quickly toward an open store, restaurant, lighted area or a location where others are present.

If you think you are being followed in a vehicle, proceed to an area that is highly visible, well lighted, and with other individuals in the area.

Do not isolate yourself in a parking lot.

Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
