Shop Smart, Shop Safe

The Mandeville Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind all citizens that with the holiday shopping season upon us, extra precautions should be taken while out shopping. Cars should be locked. Purses, packages, cell phones, and other valuables should not be left/placed in a vehicle where they are in plain sight, and shoppers should park in well lit, heavily traveled areas of a parking lot. Be aware of your surroundings as you walk to your vehi-cle and take notice if you think you are being followed, especially if you are carrying several packages.
While in the stores, take extra precautions to secure your purse or other personal valuables that you normally place in your shopping cart without a second thought. Thieves work in teams where one person will distract you by engaging you in conversation such as asking your opin-ion on a particular item, etc and while you are distracted another team member will snatch your purse, packages or other valuables. Most times the shopper does not realize that they have been victimized until the check out and by that time the thieves are long gone.
As always, report any suspicious activities to the Mandeville Police Department at 626-9711.
