Three Suspected Burglars Arrested By Century Station Deputies
On Sunday, November 13, 2011, at 8:15 a.m., patrol deputies from Century Station arrested three men for receiving stolen property and reasonable cause burglary.
The deputies conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle for several vehicle code violations near the intersection of Wilmington Avenue and Imperial Highway. Upon contact, the occupants of the vehicle appeared to be extremely nervous. One of the occupants quickly attempted to conceal a laptop between his seat and the center console of the vehicle. Also, the deputies could see one of the occupants had several bags of marijuana on his lap. Three occupants of the vehicle indicated they were on active parole. All of the occupants were detained pending further investigation.
During a search of the vehicle, the deputies recovered the following items that appeared to have been stolen: (2) laptop computers, (2) Nintendo Wii game consoles, and (1) cellular phone. During subsequent interviews, the occupants gave conflicting stories regarding the ownership of the recovered property.
Utilizing the contacts list in the recovered cellular phone, the deputies were able to identify a victim, who resides in a nearby city. The deputies quickly learned the recovered items had been stolen, within 24 hours of the traffic stop, during a residential burglary. The recovered property was later identified by the victim. Three of the occupants, who were each in possession of the stolen property, were arrested for multiple charges. All three suspects were identified as active gang members.
