3-Day Event Celebration
PERTH AMBOY, NJ— Mayor Wilda Diaz announces the Puerto Rican Discover Day celebration hosted by the Puerto Rican Association for Human Development, Inc. (PRAHD), the City of Perth Amboy and the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission. All Perth Amboy resident and those of the surrounding communities are invited to commemorate Puerto Rico Discovery Day.
This year our celebration will be a 3-day event beginning Thursday, November 17, 2011 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with a film presentation of “The Legacy of 21,” highlighting the life of Roberto Clemente. On Friday, November 18, from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm, we will be hosting a musical event “Celebrando Nuestra Cultura” (Celebrating Our Culture), featuring art and poetry. Both events will be held at the Alexander F. Jankowski Community Center on One Olive Street, Perth Amboy and refreshments will be served.
The final day activities will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2011 as follows:
Event #1:
Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 380 Smith Street at 9:00 a.m.
Event #2:
Puerto Rican Flag Raising ceremony, Perth Amboy City Hall Circle, 260 High Street at 12:00 noon.
An Outstanding Community Member Award will be awarded to: Monsignor John B. Gordon, Angelina Nunez, Jahaira Perez and Johnathan Nunez, who have demonstrated leadership and involvement for the benefit of the City of Perth Amboy during the ceremony.
Event # 3:
Cultural Activity, Robert N. Wilentz School, 357 New Brunswick Avenue at 1:30 p.m. This event will highlight music of folkloric groups, entertainment for the whole family, ethnic food and refreshments.
