Fire Department Training
November 12, 2011

NOTICE

Your Waterville Valley Department of Public Safety will be conducting controlled training fires in the building formerly known as The Waterville Valley Gas Station on Saturday November 12, 2011. Scheduled start time is 8:30 am. The fires will be confined to this building only.

This training will be done in accordance to The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) strictly following their standard for Fire Department Training Burns, NFPA 1403. This training has been approved by the Waterville Valley Board of Selectmen. To qualify for permitting the building has been prepared by removing all asbestos and potential pollutants. The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services has approved the building for Live Fire Instruction and Training Activities.

The purpose of this training is to give our firefighters experience under actual fire conditions. The fires will increase in intensity as the training progresses. The building will be burned to the ground during our last training exercise. This training is a valuable experience in the on-going education of our firefighters.

You may see several fire department apparatus on November 12th. WV is a member of the Lakes Region Fire Mutual Aid Association (LRMFA). Member departments rely on mutual aid to mitigate major emergencies. Chief Hodges has extended an invitation to LRMFA departments in our first alarm district which include; Campton-Thornton, Plymouth, Ashland, Holderness and Woodstock. Training will be under the direct supervision of several certified fire instructors.

As we conduct these fires, your cooperation will be greatly appreciated. The area surrounding the Gas Station will have limited access. A viewing area in front of the Water Treatment Plant will be provided. Parking will be limited to the Waterville Valley Campground, and the marked areas along Tripoli Rd. The live fire training area will be strictly controlled. All spectators are to remain in the designated viewing areas only. Viewing areas are subject to change should wind or smoke conditions become unfavorable. Please follow all directions, and do not approach the firefighters or equipment within the training area.
