Township of Barnegat, New Jersey
Weather Advisory - Coastal Storm
Saturday, October 29, 2011 - 1:00PM

An early season nor'easter continues to bring heavy rains and strong winds to Barnegat Township. Also, Barnegat is experiencing minor to moderate coastal flooding along the bayfront with some over wash on Bayshore Drive between the municipal beach and dock.

Rain will continue through out the day with some periods of heavy rain. Flooding of poor drainage areas is occurring in Barnegat. Rain should end by early Sunday morning.

Winds are out of the northeast between 20-30mph, with gust up to 45mph. Winds are much stronger along the Barnegat bayfront. Please secure any outside items such as trash and recycling cans, flags and Halloween decorations. Winds will shift to the northwest and decrease in speed into Sunday.

Temperatures will be well below normal over the weekend. Daytime highs will be in the upper 40's with nighttime lows near freezing. It will be noticeably colder in the western part of the Township.

At this time, accumulating snows are not expected in the Barnegat area. There is a good chance that snow will mix with rain Saturday evening, but it is not expected to accumulate. Isolated icy spots maybe experienced in the extreme western portion of the Township late Saturday night into Sunday morning. Please exercise caution when driving during this time period.

Residents traveling north or west of the I-95 corridor will see accumulating snows and hazardous road conditions. Both the Philadelphia and New York City regions will experience winter conditions Saturday night. Extreme northern reaches of New Jersey and Pennsylvania will experience significant, historic snowfall. Be prepared for winter driving conditions in these areas over the weekend.

Again, the Barnegat Township area is being impacted by an early season coastal storm. Strong winds, heavy rains and coastal flooding are currently being experienced. Take necessary precautions to secure and protect property. Do NOT drive around barricades and do NOT drive on flooded roadways as the water maybe deeper than it appears.

Call the Barnegat Township Police Department at (609) 698-5000 if you need to report any hazardous weather related conditions. Only call 911 if you need an immediate response from police, have a medical emergency, or need to report a fire.
