MEDIA RELEASE 10/26/11 MAN ARRESTED FOR BURGLARY AFTER VICTIMS POST VACATION PLANS ON FACEBOOK: http://tinyurl.com/5wrnma8

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III announced today the arrest of one individual in relation to a burglary and theft that occurred in Newtown, Pennsylvania on September 27, 2011.
HCPO Detectives assisting the Newtown Police Department executed a search warrant at the residence of Steven Pieczynski, age 36, of Goat Hill Road in West Amwell Township.
The Prosecutor stated, “The victims are Facebook friends with Mr. Pieczynski who posted their vacation plans on Facebook. Knowing their residence was empty, Mr. Pieczynski broke in and removed property belonging to the victims. Vigilant neighbors noticed a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood the evening of the burglary and recorded the license plate. After learning of the break in, the neighbors informed police of their observations. Newtown Police contacted the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office for assistance with the search warrant. Mr. Pieczynski was arrested without incident at his place of employment in Pennsylvania after Detectives found proceeds from the burglary in his residence.”
Mr. Pieczynski was lodged in the Bucks County Correctional Facility where he posted bail and was released. Charges in Hunterdon County are pending. The investigation is ongoing.
Prosecutor Kearns added, “I commend the neighbors who were vigilant and recorded the vehicle information leading to the arrest of the defendant. At the same time, I want to take this opportunity to remind people to never post their vacation plans on any internet web site.”
The filing of a criminal complaint is merely a step in the criminal justice process. The defendant is presumed innocent until the matter is resolved in a court of law.
Questions can be submitted to the Prosecutor via fax to 908-806-4618.
