Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III announces that bank robbery suspect, Odell Taitt, is scheduled to be in court today for a first appearance. Mr. Taitt was arrested yesterday in connection to a bank robbery that occurred at the PNC Bank in the Oldwick section of Tewksbury Township.
The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and the Tewksbury Township Police charged Taitt, age 32, of Denver, Pennsylvania, with 1st Degree Robbery, 3rd Degree Theft, and 3rd Degree Terroristic Threats. The Honorable Stephen B. Rubin, J.S.C. set bail on Mr. Taitt at $250,000. He is being held at the Hunterdon County Jail. Mr. Taitt will be in court today at 1:30 PM in front of Judge Rubin for a first appearance.
Additionally, Mr. Taitt is a suspect in a separate attempted bank robbery that occurred yesterday at the Wells Fargo Bank on South Street in New Providence. Mr. Taitt may also be responsible for additional robberies in surrounding states. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
The Prosecutor added, “I wish to commend the Tewksbury Township Police Officers for immediately initiating a statewide radio broadcast with the description of the suspect and vehicle. I also would like to recognize the Bernards Township Police Officers who observed the suspect vehicle on Route 78 and subsequently apprehended Mr. Taitt. They are a credit to their agencies.”
Prosecutor Kearns also stated, “Hunterdon County, with its major highways, is not immune to transient crime that victimizes local businesses and residents. Residents should always remain vigilant to any suspicious activity and report it to authorities immediately.”
The Prosecutor also commended the teamwork of all the agencies involved in the investigation, including his own Detectives, Tewksbury Township Police, Bernards Township Police, New Providence Police, Readington Township Police, New Jersey State Police, Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, and the FBI.
