On August 17, 2011, firefighters from the Ventura County Fire Department and deputies from the Camarillo Police Station were dispatched to a vehicle fire in the 400 block of Calle San Pablo in the city of Camarillo. Arson Investigators from the Ventura County Fire Department and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office also responded and determined the fire was intentionally set. As the investigation progressed, the suspect was identified as Camarillo business owner, Juan Rivera Suarez. The ensuing lengthy investigation revealed the vehicle owner paid Suarez to make arrangements for the vehicle to be taken to a remote location and set afire for the purpose of insurance fraud.

On October 13, 2011, detectives assigned to the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail assisted arson investigators with the service of a search warrant at Suarez’ business, “JR Customs,” located at 532 S. Dawson Drive in Camarillo. At that time, Suarez was arrested for conspiracy to commit a crime and arson. Suarez was booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility.
