Attempt Homicide Arrest

On 07/09/11 at 2033 hours Santa Ana Police officers responded to a report of a stabbing near 26 Civic Center Plaza. Officers located the victim, Aristeo Rodriguez (Age 56) who had been stabbed multiple times. Victim Rodriguez was sitting on a bench near the 26 Civic Center Plaza building when the suspect attacked him with a knife with no provocation. The victim was only able to identify the suspect by his last name “Rojas” and a nickname.

Homicide Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Juan Carlos Rojas (Age 37). Rodriguez and Rojas are both transients who frequent the Civic Center Area and have known each other for a number of years. The two frequently drink together and have had arguments and at least one physical altercation in the past but consider each other to be friends.

Civic Center Patrol Officers located Rojas and transported him to the station where he was interviewed by homicide detectives and admitted to the stabbing of Rodriguez. Based on the number and severity of the wounds Rodriguez received Rojas was booked for 664/187 and presented the case to the OCDA and they filed attempted murder charges on Rojas.
