The Alhambra PD in partnership with the Alhambra Unified School District's "Gateway to Success" launches its Youth Diversion Program.

The Alhambra Police Department has an important message for the community!

The Alhambra Police Department in partnership with the Alhambra Unified School District’s “Gateway to Success” launches its Youth Diversion Program. This community outreach program provides “first-time” juvenile offenders an alternative to prosecution for “non-violent and non-narcotic related” offenses other than the juvenile criminal justice system.

This informal juvenile diversion program would be a “one time only” opportunity for a first-time juvenile offender to avoid prosecution for a non-violent/non-narcotic related misdemeanor offense by participating and completing a structured plan involving mandatory counseling, maintaining acceptable school attendance and grades, and mandatory active parental participation. The goal of the program is to reduce juvenile recidivism rate through a set of structured courses designed to change behavior and learn new relationship skills requiring both the juvenile offender and parent(s) to complete.

Participants eligible for the program must meet the following criteria:

• Be an Alhambra resident or enrolled in the Alhambra Unified School District
• Must be under 18 years of age
• Have no prior arrests or arrest record
• Committed a “non-violent/non-narcotic” misdemeanor offense
• Parent(s) must actively participate and complete the entire parenting skills
program

The Alhambra Police Department and the Alhambra Unified School District are working together through the “Gateway to Success” developing future programs designed to provide parents and students with additional resources, support and intervention strategies. Any questions concerning the Youth Diversion Program and Parent Project should call “Gateway to Success” at (626) 943-3410.
