New Permanent Drop Box for Prescription Medications

The Smithville Police Department announces the implementations of a permanent drop-off site for unwanted or unneeded prescriptions drugs. A permanent drop box will be located in the lobby of the City Hall, located at 107 W. Main St. Prescription drugs, and unwanted or expired OTC drugs, can be dropped off anonymously, no questions asked, no paperwork to complete. Police just ask that you remove or cover all prescription labels.

The following items can be dropped off: all prescription medications, over the counter medications, medication samples, vitamins, syrups, ointments, creams, lotions and inhalers.

The following items CAN NOT be dropped off at the site: any sharps (e.g. needles, syringes or lancets), any mercury or cadmium products (thermometers & batteries), disposal medical waste items (IV bags, used bandages, gowns, or bio-hazardous items), aerosol cans, chemicals or disinfectants (Hydrogen Peroxide), or personal care items.
