NARRATIVE:
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Special Victims Bureau, is investigating a case involving a Middle School Teacher at Lorbeer Middle School, who had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old former student.

The 14-year-old girl disclosed to investigators that the relationship between her and the suspect began when she was a student at Lorbeer Middle School. The suspect routinely provided his students with his cellular telephone number, so the students could ask him school-related questions. During the 2010-2011 school year, while the victim was in the eighth grade, the suspect and victim became friends. The friendship escalated into the suspect having sexual intercourse with the victim between April, 2011 and September, 2011. The acts were discovered by an assistant principal who called the Sheriff's Department to investigate.

On September 30, 2011, Suspect Steven Andrews, a teacher at Lorbeer Middle School, surrendered himself to the Walnut Sheriff's Station, where he was booked on charges of Lewd Acts with a Child.

On October 5, 2011, the Pomona District Attorney's Office filed 17 felony counts against the suspect and his bail is set at $450,000.
