Narrative:
On 10-7-11 at approximately 2:00 PM, patrol units from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office - Ojai Station responded to the 8900 block of Nye Road to assist the Ventura County Fire Department on a structure fire. It was reported that there were residents inside the structure at the time of the fire. Ventura County Fire Department personnel arrived on scene, performed life saving efforts, and then proceeded to extinguish the flames, which had engulfed the structure at that point.
The adult male was immediately transported to the Ventura County Medical Center, where he succumbed to the injuries that he received from the fire.
The adult female was immediately transported to the Ojai Valley Community Hospital with significant/serious burns and suffering from smoke inhalation.
At the time of this report, investigators were unable to determine the exact cause of the fire, and the investigation is continuing.
Names were withheld pending notification of next of kin, as well as the ongoing investigation being conducted jointly by the Ventura County Fire Department and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
