Identity fraud activity reported
A recent report was received by a resident reporting fraudulent activity. The complainant received a phone call on 9/30/11 from an unknown male subject posing as a fraud investigator. The subject called her by her first and last name and inquired whether or not she authorized a $390 cell phone purchase. The subject then asked for her personal information to verify the fraud and was subsequently supplied with her banking account and social security numbers. The subject used that information to drain her checking account of all of her funds. The detective bureau is currently investigating.
If anyone should receive a similar call, never supply any personal information over the phone, computer or in person. If they are truly representing your bank, they already have your personal information on file. Ask for a full name, company and call back number and then research on your own to assure that the information is accurate. Calling back the number provided by the caller is not adequate. Research the company and call back the number that you are able to verify as legitimate. If you are not able to verify on your own or if you have confirmed an attempted fraud, contact your local police department immediately
