Electric Carts on Campus - CSUSB
Campus Community,
The University Police has received several complaints regarding electric carts speeding and not yielding the right-of-way to pedestrians. We would like to remind all those who drive electric carts and service vehicles on campus to be aware of your surroundings.
The speed limit throughout campus is 15 MPH. Be aware, sometimes it is not safe to drive at 15 MPH. When people are in the walkways and roadways you need to slow down. The California Vehicle Code applies on state property, you can receive a traffic citation while driving an electric cart on campus.
Campus policy states, to drive a state owned electric cart on state property you must be a state employee or current student, must be over eighteen with a valid California driver license and must possess a defensive driving certificate. Violating University Policy is a violation of the California Education Code and is a misdemeanor crime.
Electric carts and service vehicles have restricted areas they can be driven. You can find maps of these areas on the University web site,
