Advanced Surveillance and Protection (ASAP)
The Advanced Surveillance and Protection Plan, known as “ASAP” features a variety of technologies such as video surveillance, acoustic gunshot detection, and automatic license plate recognition (ALPR). The technologies are integrated into a state of the art command center functioning with station dispatch.
*Video Surveillance*
The ASAP system utilizes video surveillance cameras at major intersections and targeted areas to provide deputies with real-time intelligence to more safely handle incidents. The video deters crime, and provides valuable evidence to strengthen criminal prosecution.
*Acoustic Gunshot Detection*
“Shotspotter” is an acoustic gunshot detection system that incorporates acoustic sensors with a computerized mapping system. Designed to assist law enforcement with the ability to locate gunfire and immediately apprehend suspects, “Shotspotter” pinpoints the location of gunfire within a 5-foot area within seconds after the occurrence.
*Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR)*
The Automatic License Plate Recognition system features Sheriff’s radio cars equipped with cameras pointing forward, sideways and backward. The cameras continuously scans and records vehicle license plates, and alerts the deputy of stolen vehicles, wanted suspects, or missing persons.
Each license plate scan is recorded on a database with date, time GPS location, and a photograph of the driver. Detectives have solved numerous crimes and located missing persons from “AMBER ALERTS” by checking the database. ALPR is a valuable tool in our crime fighting efforts.
