Sausalito Police’s Marine 1 Rescues Intoxicated Boater
On Wednesday, 9/7/2011, at approximately 5:54pm, Sausalito police officers responded to the Clipper Fuel Dock on the report of an intoxicated man who had fallen into the water. The subject was last seen pulling himself into a skiff and rowing out into Richardson’s Bay.
Detective Brian Mather and Officer Ryan McMahon launched the police department’s patrol boat, Marine 1, and were able to locate the man, Steven “Brett” Hanke, age 49, of Corte Madera, approximately 100–150 yards off the Sausalito coastline. Hanke had again fallen into the water and was struggling to get onboard his sailboat. Hanke appeared very intoxicated and was placed under arrest for public intoxication and violating the terms of his probation.
Hanke was booked into the Marin County Jail where he is currently being held without bail.
