State trooper in critical condition after accident on I-96
HANDY TOWNSHIP - Michigan State Police trooper was in critical condition Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle on eastbound Interstate-96 near mile marker 122 at about 7:25 p.m. Sunday evening.
Trooper Drew Spencer was outside his vehicle making a traffic stop between Webberville and Fowlerville when a vehicle driving eastbound veered and struck Spencer, the patrol vehicle and the stopped vehicle, said Inspector Jim Shaw of the Michigan StatePolice.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Spencer, a 49-year-old Novi man, also sustained injuries but was in stable condition at Sparrow Hospital Sunday evening.
Traffic in both directions was shut down for several hours following the crash.
State police are investigating the cause of the crash.
