Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III announced the arrests of four individuals after a month
long drug investigation in Flemington Borough. The undercover investigation exposed a network that was
responsible for the distribution of Cocaine, Ecstasy, Prescription Drugs, and Marijuana.
Prosecutor Kearns said, “The investigation began when concerned residents of Flemington and the
Flemington Borough Police Department became concerned about suspicious activity in the Hunter Hills
Apartment Complex.”
The investigation revealed that Tobias M. Daniels, age 36, was running a drug trafficking operation out of his
apartment at the Hunter Hills Apartment Complex in Flemington. When the apartment was raided by
detectives, multiple suspects, including Daniels, were in the apartment and taken into custody.
Prosecutor Kearns added, “A search of the residence disclosed an amount of narcotics indicative of a drug
distribution operation.”
Also arrested were Rashawn L. Gaines, age 20, of Frenchtown, Samaad K. Williams, age 18, and Robert
Copeland, age 29, both residents of Hunter Hills. According to the Prosecutor, all three defendants have
known gang affiliations. Gaines is from Camden, Williams is from Newark, and Copeland is from Elizabeth.
Gaines and Williams are members of the Bloods and Copeland is a member of the Crips.
Daniels was charged with Possession of CDS with Intent to Distribute, Possession of CDS, and Maintaining a
Nuisance Property. The Honorable Eric M. Perkins, J.M.C. set bail at $10,000 for Daniels and he was lodged
in the Hunterdon County Jail awaiting a first appearance in court.
Gaines and Williams were charged with Possession of CDS with Intent to Distribute and Possession of CDS.
Both were remanded to the Hunterdon County Jail in lieu of bail ($2500 for Gaines and $10,000 for Williams)
and are awaiting a first appearance in court.
Copeland was charged with Possession of CDS and Obstruction of Justice and remanded to the Hunterdon
County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. Detectives also discovered that Copeland was a fugitive from Essex County
where he is a wanted on drug charges.
The investigation was coordinated by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs Guns and Narcotics
Task Force. Assisting was the Hunterdon County SWAT Team and the Flemington Borough Police
Department. The Readington Township Police Department also supported the investigation.
The filing of a criminal complaint is merely a step in the criminal justice process. The defendant is presumed
innocent until the matter is resolved in a court of law.
