Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III and Flemington Borough Police Chief George Becker announced that on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, the Flemington Borough Police Department arrested Nicholas Soda, age 36, of Parker Avenue in Flemington.
Prosecutor Kearns said, “Evidence obtained by detectives revealed that on August 7, 2011, Mr. Soda crashed his vehicle and abandoned it in Plainfield, NJ. Mr. Soda then reported it stolen to the Flemington Police Department the following day. A claim was also filed with Allstate Insurance Company for the loss.”
Mr. Soda was charged with Insurance Fraud (3rd degree), Obstruction of Justice (4th degree), and Filing a False Police Report (disorderly persons offense). Bail was set at $25,000 by Judge John Petronko Jr. and Soda was remanded to the Hunterdon County Jail. His first court appearance is set for August 25, 2011.
The case was investigated by DETECTIVE MARIASCHIN and PATROLMAN SORIANO of the Flemington Borough Police Department and the Hunterdon County Prosecutors Office Insurance Fraud Unit.
The filing of a criminal complaint is merely a step in the criminal justice process. The defendant is presumed innocent until the matter is resolved in a court of law.
