Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III announced that on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, members of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Anti-Crime Team arrested two Middlesex County men for illegally growing fifteen marijuana plants on a Hunterdon County land preserve.
Detectives, on a surveillance detail, observed brothers, Allan D. Loyer, age 58, and John C. Loyer, age 60, as they cared for their marijuana plants within the confines on the South Branch River Preserve in Franklin Township, Hunterdon County. The investigation into the illegal marijuana growing operation was initiated after Hunterdon County Park Rangers contacted the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office earlier this summer.
Both men were charged with Maintaining a Controlled Dangerous Substance Production Facility (1st degree) and Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute (2nd degree). Bail was set at $250,000.00 by the Honorable Stephen B. Rubin, J.S.C. The brothers were lodged at the Hunterdon County Jail awaiting a first appearance in court.
The street value of the useable marijuana cultivated from these plants could have exceeded $50,000.
The filing of a criminal complaint is merely a step in the criminal justice process. The defendant(s) is presumed innocent until the matter is resolved in a court of law.
